Smoothing Ragged Edges

About

Inner healing and a place of peace. ~Pat
Description
This page is a place to go to look for a sense of peace. Look into your inner self and heal those ragged edges. Also about growth while surviving. Mending the heart while becoming strong and finding that inner peace. It is the basic hope that those who need, receive, each at their own level. Sometimes we all need a little support and a little hope, and my wish is this page provides it.

Our minds...what is allowed?
Thank you The Other Side of Ugly
There are so many posts about our minds and what we 'feed' it.  I feel there is at least kernel of truth to each of them. Sometimes there is absolutely no control over what our minds think and do. Some mental illnesses cause things there is no control over but medication. Some other problems, OCD, ADHD, ADD, SADD, Autism, to name a few, we can work more with. Then we come to the traumas, PTSD, all forms of abuse and neglect. Those all need healing.
But the post above is talking more of just a regular working mind. It seems quite true. The more you feed it certain things, working on computers, phones, gaming, creates addictions. Reading of certain types of materials can numb you to the normal responses after a while. We need to regulate how much of what goes into our minds. If we know it is bad for us, avoid it. If it helps create good habits, focus on it more.
At one time watching programs on tv, you saw the whole show from basically 3 views, which didn't really change often. Then they started to go to different cameras, every few seconds and you saw more of what they thought we should see at that moment. We got used to the constant changing and when it went back to 2-3 views, staying for any length of time, people lost interest. They changed the person's ability to be able to sit and watch one thing for more than a few seconds. Now we wonder what happened...why can't our children focus in school. Why can they not pay attention for any length of time to what is being said? We watch violence constantly. People being rude, disrespectful, taking what they want and feeling like they deserve it. What happened to working for what we get? Being appreciative for what we have?
What we give power over, has power over us. We must recognize the need for change and take steps to deal with making those changes. Only we have the power to change what has power over us.

Thank you Spirit Trails
That goes back to the first post. We need to look at what ignites our passions for doing things. Art, music, helping others...just to name three.
Thank you Peaceful Mind, Peaceful Life.
For me it should say limit who and what has access to me. It is not just who that has access to me which will cause my mind problems, but also what I allow access to me. Again, going back to the first post.
Thank you Spirit Trails
Thank you Texas Mind and Body.
Thank you Helen Marie
Have a wonderful day. Be sure to think about what has access to your mind!
